Find DEAF — Depositor Education and Awareness Fund
जमाकर्ता शिक्षा एवं जागरूकता निधि
What is DEAF?
Under Section 26A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and the Reserve Bank of India's Depositor Education and Awareness Fund Scheme, 2014, banks are required to transfer the credit balance of accounts that have remained inoperative or unclaimed for 10 years or more to the RBI's Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF).
Transferring a balance to DEAF does not mean the money is lost. Depositors, or their nominees / legal heirs, can claim the amount from the Bank at any time, even years later. The Bank verifies the claim and pays the depositor, then separately claims reimbursement from RBI — there is no time limit on when you can claim.
